Buying A New LCD Projector

LCD Projector for your Home Theater

-

Today, the word digital appears on billboards, magazine pages, television commercials and in so many other places that we would be hard pressed to go a day without some sort of point of reference to the word. In the previous two decades, the improvements of digital technology has reliably been leap after leap, and home theater systems are no outlier to this. Home theater systems including coarse, big screen televisions and good stereo surround sound were once considered top of the line. But these days, a home theater is more expensive and advanced than ever before, with spending $10,000 is just a ripple in the pool of finding a great home theater.

Particularly in the case of digital LCD projectors, there have been massive changes of late. Initially, the preposterous size and inordinate costs of projectors made household theaters only a distant dream. The large majority of home theater users weren’t actually in homes.  At first, it was only universities and major businesses that could afford such costs. With today’s technology, small, inexpensive projectors are easily within reach of the general public.

When deciding which digital projector to buy, you must first find the place it will be best suited. You’ll need to research one that suits the size of your room effectively and will project a correctly sized picture to the screen or wall. You also must decide if you will mount the projector on a table or from the ceiling.

Undoubtedly, the element that changes the most from model to model is brightness. If the projector will find a home in a room without any outdoor lighting and the indoor lights off, a 1000 lumen projector will be perfectly fine. If the room will let light in, you will want 1500 lumens or, preferably, more.

The clearness of the picture is often referred to as resolution.  Many distinct resolutions exist for home projectors. The smallest resolution out right now is called SVGA which sits at 800×600. This resolution will be adequate for smaller picture spreads, but investing the money on a increased resolution would be a wise investment. Several other resolutions exist, such as XGA, SXGA, WXGA, 1080p, 720p. and 1080i.  Each has its own specific dimensions. Regarding full HD, 1080P is presently the greatest and will allow for an unbelievable representation. Although 1080i was considered to be the best for an extended period of time, 1080p has now replaced it as the greatest possible resolution for a home theater projector. 1080 is a reference to the number of lines of resolution.

You will be pleasantly surprised by the fantastic selection and reasonable prices of DLP projectors on the market. Frequently for under $1500, you can buy a projector that will transform your home into a personal movie theater. The home projector is an well invested part of the home theater, and once you’ve chosen which model to get with a budget in mind, all that’s left is the screen, audio system, and comfortable seating for unlimited of movie enjoyment.

An Introduction to DLP and LCD Projectors

Projector Brightness and Projector Panel Type

Panasonic LCD Projector. This article will briefly discuss two parameters that are crucial to know about, brightness and projector panel type or technology. With a basic grasp of brightness and projector types, you will be able to make a much more informed decision as to what projector will best meet your needs. There are a multitude of specifications and parameters to take into consideration when buying for example a brand new or refurbished

Projector Brightness

One of the most fundamental projector qualities is it’s brightness. You should be sure to consider your set up location when choosing a projector. Also related to brightness and projection environment is adjustability (projection angle and distance), when using portable compact projectors on the go this can be important. Pricier, high end projectors are usually brighter and capable of putting out more lumens. Here’s a breakdown of the ANSI luminosity levels and their standard usage, but keep in mind it’s all up to you to choose which would be best.

• 3000 ANSI lumens or more. These are really bright projectors suitable for use in very large venues or even outdoors. High lumen projectors also excell at greater distances and projecting larger screen sizes.

• 1800 - 3000 ANSI lumens. Perfect for classroom presentations and big lectures, high end home theater and TV viewing, DVDs and more.

• 1000 to 1800 ANSI lumens, good for basic entertainment purposes, portable business presentations, static graphics and inexpensive game use.

Projector Panel Type

The main projector types are LCD and DLP. LCD is the most popular of the two currently. DLP technology is licensed from Texas Instruments, more proprietary, and slightly more expensive than LCD panel technology like that used in the Sanyo LCD Projector. LCD technology also seems to provide more vibrant color saturation and greater levels of brightness. Keeping  the strengths and weaknesses of LCD technology can be very helpful while comparing specs and purchasing an LCD projector.

DLP projectors can be in the similar price range but are often capable of greater contrasts with darker blacks than the LCD. DLP is also very popular in home theater enthusiast circles for it’s ability (high end DLP  projectors) to create a strikingly film like experience. Some say DLP is more durable when it comes to long-lasting performance compared to the standard LCD. Get some real world practice by looking at the specs of the DLP Projector and find out for yourself what they are capable of.
