If you have to exchange your present DVD cases or you need cases for new DVDs, you should  weigh investing in slim DVD cases.  While most of us still buy the normal DVD cases, slim ones are for many reasons.

Getting slim DVD cases makes a lot of sense.  The most important benefit about them is that because they’re thin, they take a great deal less storage space than standard cases.  For example, slim DVD cases measure at around 7mm thick while regular ones are around twice that thick.  They’re around half the width of a standard case so they only require  about half the space.  If you want or have a big DVD collection, or even an above average sized one, that might mean much less space that you require for DVD storage.

There’s just one true issue with slim DVD cases, and that is that the papers for regular DVD  cases might not go in, especially if it’s a big brochure, and that the sides of the covers may  be too thick. But it’s simple to bypass this by just reducing a little bit off both of the short  sides of the inner notes. You’ll still be able to easily see what’s printed on the side of the cover so you can still store them comfortably on shelves.

Two last alternatives to regular DVD cases are to use CD jewel cases or to use DVD storage sleeves.  The biggest upside of jewel covers is that they are about half the size of DVD cases so you don’t need as much storage space, however the basic problem is that they’re not very durable and might smash easily if dropped or  mishandled.

If this does happen, you’ll need to replace the case and possibly also the complete disc if it gets damaged. Paper and plastic sleeves are relatively thin and light, so they take a small amount of storage room but they also don’t afford your discs much protection.  They are simply  good for DVDs that you need to put away for  the long term but seldom really take out or access.
