Audio-wise, the new Sony DVD camcorders offer Dolby Digital surround audio, with a built-in 5-channel microphone system in the Sony DCR-DVD403, or an optional 5-channel microphone for most of the other models.

While most of the Sony DVD camcorder models have the traditional elongated camcorder shape, the Sony DCR-DVD7 DVD Handycam Camcorder breaks the mold with unique different oval, or clam, shape. It has a hybrid 2.5-inch touch-panel LCD, as well.
